Tv2000 - "Mio padre, Alcide De Gasperi”
One hundred years ago, a fundamental political, cultural, and human experience for the history of Italy began: with the Appeal to the Free and Strong, on January 18, 1919, Don Sturzo founded the Popular Party. The documentary "My Father, Alcide De Gasperi," by Monica Mondo and directed by Maurizio Carta, features an exclusive interview with Maria Romana De Gasperi, the statesman's daughter and his main collaborator. It paints a very private portrait of her father, yet one of great current political significance, through documents, letters, previously unrevealed anecdotes, and previously unpublished private images. The Appeal to the Free and Strong represents the renewed commitment of Catholics to actively participate in the common good, based on the social doctrine of the Church. Alcide De Gasperi was there; he was the first secretary of the Popular Party after his friend, the priest, and his entire life as a statesman was fueled by that impetus, that ideal purity. De Gasperi, whom everyone mourns and quotes, regardless of party; De Gasperi, the first Prime Minister of the Italian Republic, one of the fathers of Europe. A man is his history, his family, his loved ones. A great man is seen in the details, in the small, everyday things, in the anecdotes that intimately portray him and reveal his personality. His daughter Maria Romana, a tireless witness, alongside her father at every turn of his commitment, tells the story: she as a child, with her father in prison, the wonderful love between her parents, their simplicity, their fascination with nature, their faith, never flaunted, but supporting every action and word. She traces his style and courage, with memories of mountain walks, or the trip to America that began the reconstruction. Maria Romana elegantly and tenderly converses with her father, who responds through the gaze of so many private images; through his letters, his writings to his family, brought to life by the intense voice of actor Alfonso Veneroso against the backdrop of his Val di Sella, his refuge and a place of his heart. A tribute to a giant of history, but with an eye to the future.
