Students Improving Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene in the Developing World | Lee Blaney | TEDxUMBC

With 750 million people lacking access to clean water and 2.5 billion without improved sanitation facilities, the global community must prioritize water, sanitation, and hygiene. Lee Blaney believes that students can play a fundamental role in these efforts and improve the lives of hundreds of millions of people in the developing world. Lee Blaney is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical, Biochemical and Environmental Engineering at UMBC. His research program focuses on water/wastewater treatment of traditional and emerging contaminants. He also has a passion for working in the developing world and has conducted water and sanitation projects around the world. These projects were all university-based, and students played an important role. At UMBC, he advises the Engineers Without Borders chapter and their project in western Kenya. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
