How to Clean Ugg Boots Easily and Effectively

**Warning: Using this technique WILL cause your Uggs to fade - it is the nature of how the boots are dyed. Watch the entire video first and then decide for yourself if you want to use this cleaning technique** Quickie video demonstrating how to properly shampoo and clean your UGG Australia sheepskin boots. UGG boots are super popular and seem to be everywhere where the climates are cold. UGG boots are not supposed to be exposed to rain or snow and the salespeople and the product leaflets suggest the same. Seems rather silly and ironic that sheepskin UGG boots that look and feels like they belong in colder climates can't get wet. I like UGG boots so much that I almost wear them exclusively during the winter months. That being said, my boots have gone through hell and back but with a little bit of care they still appear to be in decent shape. My boots have had oil stains from my garage, salt stains from the streets and even kiddy poop when my newborn daughter decided to drop a load on me when I was changing her diaper. Regardless of what stains are on my boots I have always managed to successfully clean them (and my spouse's UGGs) using the methods shown in this video. The technique and products used in this demonstration are readily available at your local grocery store and/or shoe store. I chose to use Woolite Zero over the genuine UGG boot shampoo to prove a point that you don't need to always buy the pricier and often less effective shoe specific cleaners when you can substitute your everyday laundry detergent to get excellent results. UGG shampoo does work pretty good but Woolite Zero works just as good at 1/100th of the cost. For those that are looking for a quick clean follow the first half of the video and then rinse your boots thoroughly and stuff to dry. If you're crazy like me and demand that your boots are at their cleanest then make sure you have access to a front loader washing machine and run your boots through them - don't mix with other boots or clothing because the dye DOES run from the sheepskin. Make sure you run the wash cycle with warm wash water and do a double cold rinse. Once the wash cycle ends, stuff the boots with either old newspapers or dry washcloths to absorb the water and maintain the boot's shape. DO NOT put the boots in a dryer or directly on top of a heat register. You don't want to shrink the boots! After the boots have thoroughly dried you can choose to spray the boots with some stain and water repellant protectant spray. The protectant spray keeps the boots cleaner longer and makes future cleanings easier. I strongly advise that you do spray your boots -- You've spent $100's of dollars buying these expensive boots so why wouldn't you want them to last as long as they can? My boots were purchased back in 2008 and have gone through 5 Canadian winters so far and they're holding up as good as the day I purchased them. I little love goes a LONG way... Why the vacuuming of the inside of the boot? UGG boots are meant to be worn without socks to maximize comfort and warmth. Sometimes when you're putting on your boots your feet pick up tiny particles of dirt and grit which then deposits all the grime into the wool foot bed. The grit not only feels funny on your feet but it can actually ruin your boots over time and wear the foot bed wool "nap" down. Vacuuming out the boot removes the dirt and raises the nap for a more effective cleaning when you're washing the insides of your boot. At the end of my video you can clearly see that the boots are squeaky clean and look almost as good as the new pair showcased beside them. There is a bit of fading from the dye running off in the wash water but overall the cleaning went EXTREMELY well and I'm always satisfied with the end results. Boots I've washed using this technique include UGG Classic Short, UGG Classic Mini, UGG Classic Tall, UGG Bailey Button Triplet, UGG Bailey Button and pretty much all sheepskin variations of their boots.
