JR West has finally made an announcement: the first new train in 45 years, the "Kizashi," will be introduced to the Sanyo Line in the Yamaguchi area. This new train was developed based on the 227 series commuter DC electric railcars currently in operation in the Hiroshima and Okayama areas. Based on the theme of "Restoration," the train's color scheme, featuring the pitch black of pre-dawn light and the golden light shining through, embodies the essence of Yamaguchi. In terms of safety, the trains are equipped with cutting-edge features, a first for the Yamaguchi area, including door jam detection and a driver emergency train stop system. Additionally, destination information is displayed above the interior doors in both Japanese and English, greatly improving comfort and convenience. The 115 series trains currently in use were manufactured around 1980 during the era of the former Japanese National Railways (JNR), and were showing signs of aging. A total of 24 new "Kizashi" cars, consisting of three two-car and six three-car trains, will be gradually introduced starting in the summer of 2026, replacing some of the 115 series. With a design themed around "The Sunshine of Restoration," a new era of running befitting Yamaguchi will soon begin.
