Bell Tonal for Bass Trombone by Anthony DiLorenzo
Recorded in February 2020 in Ford Hall at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. Denson Paul Pollard, bass trombone Kimberly Carballo, piano Stefan Wiebe, recording engineer “Bell Tonal” was commissioned in 2018 by a consortium of 17 bass trombonists that included Denson Paul Pollard. The two movement composition was originally written for bass trombone and piano, but can also be performed with bass, vibraphone, and auxiliary percussion. The first movement is a rhythmic cantabile featuring many ornamentations accentuating the melodic lines. The second movement is fiery and energetic, with virtuosic solo lines and constant action that highlight the power of the low register on the bass trombone. Anthony DiLorenzo is a world-renowned composer, conductor, producer and trumpet player. He has been composing music for film and television since the early 1990s, and now holds to his name more than 80 works for brass. Mr. DiLorenzo’s music brings with it many characteristics of film scores, calling upon rhythmic and melodic motifs, minimalistic textures, and colorful harmonies.
