Panafest Emancipation Day 2019 Durbar at Assin Manso

#YearOfReturn #Ghana2019 #Emancipation #Panafest The 2019 Emancipation durbar was held at Assin Manso in the Central region. It was under the theme "Beyond 400 years: reaching across Continents into the future” and celebrated as part of the 'Year of Return' Ghana 2019 festivities. Hundreds of Africans from the diaspora took part in this year's event. Ghana became the first African nation to join in the celebration in 1998 to re-affirm its status as the Gateway to the African Homeland of Diasporans. Ghana’s claim to the position of the gateway to the Homeland is well-grounded in the fact that it was a major exit point for slaves on the West Coast in the period that the infamous trade took place. Assin Manso served as the place where slaves had their last bath on their journey. It also has the site where the returned remains of 2 diasporans (Lady Crystal from Jamaica and Carson from New York) were reburied.
