Introduction to Homeostasis & Metabolism

To sustain life, every organism must take in energy and nutrients, process them for use and excrete waste products, all while keeping internal conditions within the range that they can survive. We call these processes homeostasis and metabolism and all the body organ systems contribute to these critical functions. We start with an overview of how homeostasis is maintained and the componenets of metabolism as a foundation for further study of body systems and functions in animals and plants.
