Benoît Delépine is a bit of a Swiss Army knife of television. A French journalist, comedian, director, and actor, he looks back on "Groland," a fictional country created for the Canal+ channel, and his meeting with Gustave Kervern. He reveals all in this excerpt from September 2020. Seeing the Tesla with gull-wing doors from the show, Benoît Delépine reminisces about his film "Groland, the Big Film." More specifically, the first ending he envisioned for his feature film. He wanted to include the Tesla in the end credits, send it into space… and even have it piloted by an astronaut in a yellow vest! Speaking of his "Groland" projects, the director recounts how the show almost got canceled. Luckily for us, it has always survived and never stopped. He explains how important "Groland" is for its subscribers and how they show their support for the show. Finally, the screenwriter talks about his meeting with Gustave Kervern, his partner in crime: they crossed paths in Cannes and hit it off immediately. The two men respected each other and recognized each other's work. Delépine admired Kervern's show, "Le Plein de Super" (Full of Super). The following year, Benoît Delépine was looking for writers for the daily broadcast of the flagship show "Groland." Meeting Gustave Kervern again in Cannes was a revelation: he was the man for the job! In a state of euphoria, the comedian recalls a scene where the two friends were giving each other a leg up. The reason? Gustave Kervern had to dive into a giant glass of pastis!
