Omsk Communists Disqualified from Election for Photo Containing Extremist Symbols The Kuibyshevsky District Court of Omsk fined and banned two members of the regional Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) leadership, Ivan Fedin and Vladimir Vinichenko, from participating in elections for one year. The decisions were made in administrative cases brought under Article 20.3.1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (public display of paraphernalia or symbols of extremist organizations). Ivan Fedin and Vladimir Vinichenko were charged with posting a seven-year-old photo on social media featuring the Facebook logo (*owned by Meta, a company whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation). According to the regional committee, the photo was from a youth rally protesting the social network's "ideological content moderation." Fedin is the second secretary of the regional committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation. Vinichenko was elected to the Legislative Assembly of the Omsk Region in Sovetsky Single-Mandate Constituency No. 4 in 2021. The next regional parliamentary elections will be held in September of this year. The Communist Party of the Russian Federation believes the administrative cases are politically motivated and aimed at disqualifying prominent communists from the election campaign.
