Filmed in Israel, Palestine, Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Moscow, and Washington, "The Six-Day War" offers a contemporary perspective on this conflict. The weeks leading up to the war, the six days of combat, and the aftermath of the conflict form the film’s narrative backbone. The first part, The Sound of Arms, focuses almost exclusively on the chain of events that led to the war. The story of the three critical weeks preceding the conflict is told through the personal struggles of Egyptian leader Gamal Abdel Nasser and Israeli Prime Minister Levi Eshkol. In the second part, From War to Occupation, the narrative focuses more on the war with Jordan, the occupation of the West Bank, and the unification of Jerusalem. Eshkol, Nasser, Hussein, their military advisors, and commanders occupy the background, and a new group of characters takes center stage: Israeli and Jordanian soldiers on one side, and the Palestinian population on the other, forced to flee before the victorious Israeli troops, who had become the vanguard of a colonization movement. The film interweaves previously unpublished testimonies and interviews with some of the protagonists of this war, recently declassified archival documents, excerpts from the personal diaries of key players in this conflict, and evocations of the dramatic moments that punctuated its unfolding.
