Innai-cho is located inland of Usa City, Oita Prefecture. Ryugan-ji Temple is an ancient temple in Innai-cho. It is said to have been founded by Gyoki in the Nara period (746). The inner sanctuary chapel is the only wooden building from the Kamakura period in Oita Prefecture. The chapel, along with the plain wooden triad enshrined within, is designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. The three Buddha statues are said to have been carved from a single camphor tree. The excellence of the Buddha statues and the elegance of the worship hall make them rare cultural properties in Japan, and in Oita Prefecture, they are as valuable as Fuki-ji Temple. Ryugan-ji Temple's inner sanctuary chapel is counted among the "Three Great Ippyodo Halls of Japan," along with Sanbutsu-ji Temple in Misasa-cho, Tottori Prefecture, and Fudo-in Iwayado Hall in Wakasa-cho, Tottori Prefecture. An Ippyodo Hall is a hall built into a recess in a cliff.
