Medieval Yeghegis: Local Multiplicities, and Global Connections of a Rural Center on the Silk Road(s) Zaroui Pogossian & Michele Nucciotti March 20, 2026 Presented by The National Association for Armenian Studies and Research (NAASR) and the Society for Armenian Studies (SAS) The publication Medieval Yeghegis, Armenia: History, Archaeology, Society: Local Multiplicities and Global Connections of a Rural Center on the Silk Road(s), edited by Zaroui Pogossian & Michele Nucciotti, focuses on the small rural settlement of Yeghegis in the Vayots‘ Dzor region of the Republic of Armenia, which is examined as an active node within the Silk Road(s). Through an interdisciplinary approach, the book integrates history, archaeology, architecture, and epigraphy, highlighting innovative methodologies such as Light Archaeology. The contributions explore local dynamics and their Eurasian connections between the ninth and fourteenth centuries. Yeghegis thus emerges as a key case study for understanding landscape, power, and mobility. Dr. Zaroui Pogossian is a specialist in medieval Armenian history, culture, and religion, especially in relation to other peoples, cultures, and religions in the Near East and Asia Minor. She is Associate Professor of Byzantine Civilization at the University of Florence, and the PI of the ERC Project ArmEn: Armenia Entangled: Connectivity and Cultural Encounters in Medieval Eurasia 9th-14th Centuries (Consolidator Grant). Dr. Michele Nucciotti is an Associate Professor of Medieval Archaeology and Senior Researcher at the University of Florence. Since 2000, he has led archaeo- logical projects in Amiata, Petra-Shawbak (Jordan), and Armenia, collaborating with institutions such as the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the European Union.
