Dwijen Mukherjee is a veteran singer of various genres of Bengali and Hindi songs. But his forte is Rabindra Sangeet and popular Bengali songs. He was a Fine Arts Graduate from Calcutta University and after his student days he started singing in different cultural programmes and festivals. As a singer of popular Bengali songs Mukherjee has worked with almost every eminent music director of his day Collapse Anupam Ghatak Nachiketa Ghosh Pankaj Kumar Mallik Salil Chowdhury Soumen Thakur Sudhin Das Gupta and Sudhirlal Chakraborty to name a few. At the height of his career Dwijen Mukherjee got involved with the administration of some of the premiere music institutes. He is a member of the Experts Committee and the Selection Committee of Visva-Bharati Music Board in Calcutta. He is also an examiner for Rabindra Sangeet at Visva-Bharati University in Santiniketan. Unlike his contemporaries his career in playback singing did not flourish. He sang some Rabindra Sangeet in films like Kshudita Pashan and Sandhya Raag and thereby got the opportunity to work with Ustad Ali Akbar Khan and Pandit Ravi Shankar.
