Now that I have this Squier 50's Stratocaster, it should be easier Heartbeat was written by Buddy's old collaborator Bob Montgomery. Before The Crickets success, they played in a duo, aptly titled Buddy & Bob Buddy recorded the song at Norman Petty Studios on May 28, 1958. The lineup consisted of Buddy on acoustic guitar and vocals, Tommy Allsup on electric lead guitar, Jerry Allison on drums, and George Atwood on bass Buddy played several acoustics throughout his career. He started out on a Gibson J-45, then in 1958 switched to a Guild Navarre. The Navarre is similar to a Gibson J-200. Later in 1958, Buddy bought a real Gibson J-200 and used it to record his final apartment demos Tommy Allsup was an excellent lead guitarist out of Texas. He famously played with Buddy on the Winter Dance Party tour, notably at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa on the night Buddy's plane crashed and killed him, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper. Tommy was supposed to be on the plane, but lost a coin toss to Valens Tommy played a 1950's Fender Sunburst Stratocaster, similar to Buddy's but with a tremolo arm attached. He either plugged into Buddy's Fender Tweed Pro amp, or a Fender Tweed Twin I'm playing my Squier Classic Vibe 50's Stratocaster into my 1965 Fender Bassman. I modded the Squier with some upgrades, including Pure Vintage '59 pickups. And for the acoustic, I'm using my Ibanez 1970's MIJ J-200 copy #buddyholly #guitarcover #squier
