Heathrow Airport 50th Anniversary Flypast – 2nd June 1996 – BBC TV programme. This is a TV programme about the flypast I recorded from BBC TV , I found it on a VHS tape and converted to digital as you see here. On June 2, 1996, a week-long series of festivities began to celebrate the 50th anniversary of London Heathrow Airport. The festivities included a flypast of over 30 aircraft. On the actual day I was working at LHR and went airside to watch the flypast from about the closest viewpoint possible, I was airside half way down runway 27R/9L and had an amazing view as the aircraft flew almost over my head. Heathrow was closed for approx. 1hr to allow this flypast to happen, probably the only time that’s happened for something like this since the airport opened. This programme is presented by Raymond Baxter, Juliette Morris and Julian Tutt. The aircraft featured in the flypast included. Avro Lancaster Bristol Freighter De Havilland DH.89 Dragon Rapide De Havilland DH.104 Dove Douglas DC-3 Douglas DC-4 Douglas DC-6 Handley Page Dart Herald Vickers Viscount De Havilland Comet Douglas DC-8 BAC One-Eleven Boeing 727 Boeing 737 Boeing 747 Boeing 767 McDonnell Douglas MD-11 Airbus A340 Concorde / Red Arrows.
