Diane Rehm Book Club: "The Adversary" by Michael Crummey
For Diane's March Book Club, she is joined by award-winning Canadian author Michael Crummey for a conversation about his new novel, "The Adversary." It tells the story of a brother and sister’s feud in 18th century Newfoundland. Their battle for power in the small town of Mockbeggar spirals into vendettas and violence, with the community increasingly divided and forced to take sides. They talk about the novel's dark humor, his use of old, forgotten language and how this tale from long ago holds a mirror up to today's politics of grievance and retribution.
