Spartan Beast (Half Marathon) Phoenix, AZ Obstacles 2022

Spartan Beast (Half Marathon) at Phoenix Raceway in Arizona (November 2022). I have successfully completed my Trifecta for 2022!! Unfortunately I did not train as much as I would have liked for this Spartan Beast. To be honest, I was distracted with other events going on in my life. I also got sick two weeks before this race, so I did not train much for the 2 weeks prior either. Thankfully I recovered before the start of the race, but I definitely was not 100%. The new obstacles for this Beast were fun! If I'm being truthful, I think this is likely one of the easier Spartan locations due to the lack of altitude and elevation. After having completed the Super in Big Bear, this was nowhere near as bad (even though it was double the distance). Half of the trail was completely flat (as though you are running on a normal road). I would recommend this trail for your first Beast if you are new to Spartan. I did see quite a few people cramp up (myself included) during the race. Those tall walls and inverted walls can get you unexpectedly! The water stations were hit or miss. What I mean by that is... the water tasted REAL funky at some stations. If you were there, you know what I'm talking about and NO it was not just you who thought that! There was a span of 1.67mi where there were no water stations, but since the trail was relatively flat with minimal obstacles, this was not an issue. The volunteers provided honey stinger waffles during the midway point of the trail which was GREATLY appreciated! Overall, I wouldn't say this is the most difficult trail, but it was quite rocky. I slipped once, so it's important to exercise caution when going downhill with lots of rocks (don't mind me just stating the obvious). My favorite obstacle on this course was likely the multi-rig. I thought it was fun. Also, Stairway to Sparta was quite nice due to the kind lady and her kids. It's so heartwarming to hear others motivate you and cheer for you! I don't always feel like I'm strong enough for this, so it's nice to be reminded of that. One of the reasons I love these Spartan races so much is because of the support everyone has for one another. It takes so much to train and go out there to race. Every race I've attended so far, there are always people yelling motivational words and encouraging others to keep pushing. Also, there are those who physically lend a hand when needed and that is so rare to see outside of these races, which makes me appreciate them so much more! After completing the trifecta, people have asked me if I'm done with my Spartan journey. Well, the answer is, not quite yet. I've signed up for another Sprint for fun so I'll be posting that video up afterwards. Hopefully I'll be healthy and recovered before I attempt that one.
