It sounds like a simple question, but for the last five years living on my own farm in Isaan, I’ve struggled to give it a clear answer. In this episode, we travel to the outskirts of Bangkok to visit one of the most spectacular, and surprising, locations I have ever seen: The Golden Jubilee Museum of Agriculture, also known as Wisdom King Farm. What looks like a futuristic set of golden pyramids is actually the beating heart of Thailand’s agricultural resistance. We were there on a high-stakes mission with the Thai Permaculture Network to negotiate a partnership for the upcoming IPC16. The goal? To bring the global permaculture movement to Thailand and merge it with the country's own powerful philosophy. The King’s Philosophy and Permaculture: For decades, King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama 9) championed a system remarkably similar to permaculture, known as the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy (SEP). Through his "New Theory Agriculture" and the Khok Nong Na Model, he provided a blueprint for farmers to survive economic crises and climate change. The model uses a specific land design ratio to ensure food security and water management. But as we explore the museum, we learn that this isn't just a rigid set of rules; it is a conscious design process driven by ethics. The International Permaculture Convergence: This video is an invitation. We successfully negotiated with the museum and the Thai Farmer’s Network to co-host the next International Permaculture convergence. They agreed, but with one condition: we had to extend the event to give the local Thai farmers a full day to showcase their wisdom. From 3D cinemas teaching soil biology to "Fair Share" dormitories that test your commitment to community living, this place is a fortress of knowledge. Whether you call it Permaculture, Wanakaset (Forest Farming), or Sufficiency Economy, the goal is the same: designing a future where we don't just survive, but thrive. The "new normal" of burning seasons and industrial farming isn't working. It is time to design a new future. We hope you will join us in Thailand to be a part of it. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 00:00 The Golden Pyramids of Thailand 00:30 The Mission: International Permaculture Convergence 01:57 Inside the Wisdom King Farm (The Factions) 02:37 Wanakaset: Thai Forest Gardening 04:00 The "One Condition" for the Deal 05:35 What is Permaculture?
