From the album HOME - Eliza Gilkyson - 2023 This song is filled with the questions we ask ourselves as we turn around and face mortality, shifting our perspective on what is truly of value within the span of a single life. I had written down the idea for it many years ago and forgotten about it, but recently found it in an old notebook while I was writing for this record. It was dated 1981 and had a good opening line but really fell flat after that. The words and music poured out of me this time, re-envisioned as a duet, and from the very start I could hear Robert Earl Keen’s wonderful voice singing it with me. He certainly did deliver on my dream…a memorable voice that feels lived-in and vulnerable.
