'Stigma' ...... Langley Estate Middleton, Greater Manchester.
'Stigma'.... Made this film maybe 11 or 12 years ago on Langley Estate Middleton, Greater Manchester. Back then the estate was really impoverished and had a bad reputation. So Terry Smith asked me to make a film of his idea, a young lad from there finding it difficult to attain work and getting stitched up by a bad cop. This was my first short community film, loved creating it as we virtually made it up as we went along and so many locals got involved to make it work. When we premiered it in Middleton community centre near the old baths it seemed like everyone on Langley turned up. Even stuck Chris Nolan's poem at the end and Lee Ward was ace, his first ever acting role. I used the name Peter Walker back then, but 10 years ago changed it to Yankowski as its the name on my birth certificate. Well it was all a great experience, made on a shoestring and a message of how stigmatised the area was back then.
