It is one of the exceptionally rare places where Lord Shiva is worshipped in an idol form (as Ardhanarishvara—a joint single-stone idol with Goddess Parvati) rather than a traditional Shiva Lingam. Key Attractions & Mysteries The Ever-Growing Nandi: The temple’s biggest marvel is its massive stone Nandi (bull) statue. According to local lore and scientific insights from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), the idol grows approximately 1 inch every 20 years. Geologists credit this to the unique expanding properties of the mineral silica and iron granules in the rock. The statue has grown so large that devotees can no longer perform the traditional Pradakshina (circumambulation) around it. The Crow-Free Mystery: No crows can be seen anywhere near the temple grounds. Legend says the great sage Agastya cursed the crows after they disturbed his intense meditation. Agastya Pushkarini: A sacred step-pond within the temple premises where crystal-clear freshwater continuously flows out from the mouth of a stone Nandi.
