Krav Maga Straight Attack Defenses: Moving Off The Line

This lesson focuses on getting off the line of attack while simultaneously or immediately getting off the line of attack. The key, as with krav maga’s standing defenses, is when possible move your body off the line of attack. Stepping off the line of attack, using proper footwork and body movement, enables you to evasive action against a linear attack such as a straight punch or kick. Effectively, you will have avoided the punch with a body defense (stepping of the line of attack) while counterattacking. The immediate danger is that your still liveside to your opponent or he still may have the ability to mount an effective counterattack. The preferred defense is always to move to his deadside minimizing his ability to counterattack. Closing the distance allows you to take the initiative. By closing on the attacker, you take the fight to him/her. Humans, as bipeds, will always move faster moving forward (closing) than moving backward (retreating). "Bursting" allows you to intercept the incoming attack or evade it.
