My favourite set came from a company called Juin Tech, and I have used their F1 cable actuated calipers for around 2000 miles. I have been incredibly happy with them but have always wondered how well they compare to a fully hydraulic disc brake setup. The problem is, fully hydraulic groupsets for road bikes are still VERY expensive. For example (at the time of filming this episode), a Shimano 105 R7020 groupset will cost you around £800! However a few months ago I managed to get hold of possibly the cheapest Shimano disc brake setup ever. I got a new set of RS505 shifters and brakes for under £250, incredibly cheap for an 11 speed hydraulic disc brake groupset from Shimano. So in this episode, I will show you the RS505 groupset, get it installed, bleed the brakes, and them put them head to head against the best mechanical disc brakes I’ve used.
