Why I Downsize My Camera Bag When I Fly

When I fly with camera gear, my goal isn’t to pack less just for the sake of it. It is to reduce the chances of problems at the airport before the trip even starts. In this video, I downsize my usual landscape photography kit from a larger Shimoda Designs Action X50 v2 to the smaller Explore 35L v2 as I get ready for an upcoming trip to Death Valley. The core camera gear stays largely the same, but the constraints of air travel force more deliberate decisions about what’s essential, what’s flexible, and what can stay home. This isn’t a “what’s in my bag” checklist or a gear review.
