Gimbals just aren't what they used to be (and that's okay!) In this Star Citizen guide video, I explain the gimbal changes in the newest Star Citizen release, how to tell if they're on or off, and what the tradeoffs are when using gimbals. I also try and demonstrate when they are best used, and when you should be avoiding them. Essentially, Gimbals are now a tactical choice in combat: with gimbals off, your ship will do significantly more DPS to enemies, but higher DPS counts for nothing if you can't hit them. This is where gimbals come in: Gimbals allow your guns to transverse (to a degree) independent of your ship's orientation, but they fire much more slowly. However, if this means you're able to place more shots on the target, they definitely make a difference. If you're in a larger ship, and struggling to hit a target that is evading your nose or firing arcs, gimbals may help you score kills you may otherwise be missing completely.
