Day 7 -Part 1: Devaliya Safari Sasan Gir | Lions, Leopards & Wildlife Up Close | Almost Famous Rider

After the unforgettable Gir Jungle Safari yesterday, where a lioness walked past us with her two cubs just 5 feet away, today started with another wild experience. This time, it was the Devaliya Safari from 7 AM to 8 AM. Unlike the fully open jeep safari inside Gir National Park, Devaliya Safari gives you a different experience. It is a protected interpretation zone created to showcase the wildlife of Gir in a more controlled environment. You travel through the forest area in a semi-caged, roof-covered safari vehicle, still close enough to feel the raw presence of the wild, but with a different kind of safety and structure. And even in that one hour, Devaliya gave us memories worth carrying forever. We saw deer, sambar, nilgai, blackbuck, wild boar, jackal, jungle cat and several birds. But the highlight of the morning was watching two brother Asiatic lions, relaxing together. They looked completely at ease. Lazy. Royal. Unbothered. It felt like they were conserving energy, resting like true kings of the jungle before getting ready for another night in the wild. We also saw several Indian leopards inside open-moat areas. Honestly, it was not a very comfortable feeling watching such magnificent wild predators in a restricted setup. But we were told that these leopards were kept there because of their history of conflict with humans. Once a big cat becomes dangerous to human settlements around the jungle, keeping it free can become risky for both people and the animal. That made the experience more complex. It was thrilling, but also thoughtful. Devaliya Safari is not just about seeing wildlife quickly. It gives you a glimpse into the world of Gir, the home of the Asiatic lions, and also shows the delicate balance between wildlife conservation, tourism, forest management and human safety. For me, this was only the second jungle safari experience of my life. After yesterday’s open jeep safari inside Gir, today’s Devaliya Safari felt different but equally powerful. Watching lions, leopards and other wild animals up close while travelling through a semi-caged safari jeep was surreal. You know there is some protection, but the eyes of these predators still remind you that this is their world, and we are only visitors. This episode is about wildlife, wonder, respect, discomfort, learning and the unforgettable experience of seeing the wild side of Gujarat during our Pune to Rann of Kutch motorcycle ride.
