Beating the Heat and the Odds at Bear Creek Lake!

Summer in Arkansas can be brutal, and after weeks of getting baked out by excessive heat, a slight break in the weather was all the excuse I needed to hit the water. I headed out to Bear Creek Lake in Marianna, Arkansas, but the odds were stacked entirely against me: the Solunar Tables rated the day as terrible for fishing, and a threatening rain front was marching in fast. Spoiler alert: sometimes you just have to ignore the charts and go anyway! Even though the incoming weather forced me to cut the trip short, the fish didn't care about the bad timing. Both the bream and catfish were shockingly active, and the day culminated in a massive personal best—my biggest catfish of the entire year!
