Understanding the Quran with Ismail Yaşar, Interpretation and Commentary on the Word, Broken Interpretation Lesson: 303 | Part 15 | Surah Kahf: 16-20 | Page: 294 Meaning of the Holy Quran: 16 (These young people, after deliberating within the short time granted to them by the Decyanus, decided to migrate and set out on their journey, saying to one another:) "Since you have turned away from them and from what they worship besides Allah, then seek refuge in a cave, and your Lord will spread abundantly for you from His mercy (in both worlds) and will prepare for you something beneficial (so that you may attain the desired outcome) from your work!" 17 (My Beloved!) Then they took refuge in the cave and turned to worship. At that very moment We caused them to fall into a heavy sleep. If you had been there, you would have seen the sun rising over that cave. When it rose, it slanted to the right from their cave, and when it set, it cut through them to the left, not striking them. And they were in a wide area of ​​it (so that the air could reach them easily, and neither the oppressive atmosphere of the cave nor the heat of the sun harmed them). These are among the signs of Allah! (As He guided the Companions of the Cave), whomever Allah guides, he is the one who is guided. And whomever He leads astray, you will never find for him any protector to guide (him). 18 (My Beloved, because their eyes are open and they turn to the right and to the left) you would think they were awake, but they were sleeping! We turned them to the right and to the left (to protect them from the decay of the earth during their long sleep), and their dog would stretch out its forepaws at the entrance. If you had seen them (with their hair and nails long), you would have certainly fled and turned away from them, and you would have been filled with great fear of them. 19 Thus, just as We caused them to sleep for years, We awakened them so that they might ask one another (about what Allah Almighty had done to them) so that they might increase their firm belief in His superior power, witness the miracle of the resurrection with their own eyes, and be grateful for these blessings. One of them asked (the others): "How long did you stay (in this cave)?" They said (calculating that they entered the cave in the morning, since they woke up in the afternoon): "We stayed for a day or part of a day!" (Then) they (when they saw that their nails and hair had grown) said, “Your Lord knows best how long you have stayed! (Now look for a way to satisfy our hunger!) So send one of you with this silver coin to that city and let him see which of its people is the most pure (more lawful, more generous, and cheaper) in terms of food and bring you a provision from it.
