But what to do in Chichén Itzá and how to get there? How much does it cost? My trip to the temple included two cenotes: Suytun and Ik Kil. In addition, I also visited the city of Valladolid, on the Yucatán Peninsula. Check out this video to see how it was. ➽ CENOTE IK KIL Our tour to Chichén Itzá began at the Ik Kil cenote, located near the Chichén Itzá temple and one of the most visited in the region. It took us 3 hours on a tour bus from Playa del Carmen to reach the cenote. But what are cenotes? They are underground reservoirs of fresh water that resemble large natural pools. Common in the Yucatán Peninsula, Mexico, they are generally located among rocks. The water can be turquoise blue, green, or even dark, depending on the location. The Ik Kil cenote is 50 meters above street level and 50 meters deep. ➽ CHICHÉN ITZÁ Our next stop was Chichén Itzá, one of the most visited archaeological sites in Mexico today. It was a very important site in pre-Hispanic America. It is estimated that the main pyramid of Chichen Itza was built between 550 and 800 AD. In 2007, Chichen Itza was elected one of the New 7 Wonders of the World. And what to do in Chichen Itza? We saw parts of the Mayan temples that were colorful in the past, and others where you can see drawings on the rocks. We also saw the pyramid of Chichen Itza, one of the most famous places in this archaeological site, which marked the days and months of the year. On our tour of Chichen Itza, we visited a temple where human sacrifices were performed, and a place where the Mayans played a kind of "football game". ➽ CENOTE SUYTUN Our third stop on the tour of Chichen Itza was at the Suytun cenote.
