Starting To Build The Shed Kitchen
November 12th. A layer of frost on everything this morning—the first true cold snap of the year. Got a jump on the kitchen build today. I’m framing the shelves and countertops with construction-grade pine. It’s a gamble since the wood isn’t as stable as furniture lumber, but I’m curious to see what I can make of it. I’m hand-planing every visible face and edge, taking my time. With enough care, it ought to look furniture-grade by the time I’m done. November 20th. Temps are back up and I’m anxious to get this frame finished. Mother Nature really put on a show this morning with the fog and light. I love working in this fall weather, and planing the last 2x2s was a joy. I put a coat of shellac on all the pieces and drilled pocket holes in the cross supports. I don’t want any visible screws on the front face. The assembly went smoothly this afternoon, but I did notice the floor has a bit of a bow. I’ll need to figure out a way to shim the structure. Nothing major—just another small challenge to work through.
