Portrait sculpture is always difficult. It's even more difficult getting a likeness. Portrait sculpture has always been difficult for me, and one of the things i plan on getting better this year. Using sight size is a pretty good way. im working for photo reference so you can't use calipers too well. One of the most important things you can do as a sculpture is draw. Drawing is the foundamental skill for sculpture. Good anatomy understanding is also something to learn for sculpture.
