DOCUMENTAL ANFITEATRO, TEATRO Y GLADIADORES DE POMPEYA

The Roman Amphitheater of Pompeii is the oldest surviving Roman amphitheater. Located in the ancient Roman city of Pompeii, it was buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, which also buried Pompeii and neighboring Herculaneum. Built around 70 BC, the current amphitheater was the first Roman amphitheater to be built of stone. Previously, they had been built of wood. The next Roman amphitheater to be built of stone was the Colosseum in Rome, which later dated back more than a century. It was called a spectacula, not an amphitheater, as the latter term was not yet in use. It was built with the private funds of Quinctius Valgus and Marcius Porcius.
