At 47, Gaby Espino FINALLY admits what we've been suspecting all along. Initially, she wanted to study veterinary medicine, medicine, or dentistry, but she ultimately began studying advertising in Caracas. She didn't complete her studies, however, as she started at the age of 18 (1995) and won the audition to play Dalina on the children's program Nubeluz. She studied acting at the Luz Columba School in Caracas for two years[1] and later worked on youth soap operas A todo corazón (1997) and Así es la vida (This Is Life). In 1999, her family moved to Miami, and while there, she auditioned for the soap opera Enamorada[2] in which she starred alongside Cuban actor Rene Lavan. For this telenovela she was chosen as "Female Face of the Year" by the Association of Latin Entertainment Critics of New York (ACE).[3] In 2001, Espino received offers to act in Mexico and Peru but decided to return to Venezuela to work in two telenovelas by Leonardo Padrón, Amantes de luna llena (2000) and Guerra de Mujeres by Mónica Montañés (2001).[3] For Amantes de luna llena she won Gran Águila de Venezuela as a young actress of 2001 and for Guerra de mujeres she received the Mara de oro, the Tamanaco de oro and the Cacique de oro.
