They chose Iordache Nicolau, an old painter, known for his pure life. He began the work with great piety, first painting the vestments and the background of the icon. 🎨 The miracle of the face painting When the time came to paint the faces of the Mother of God and the Baby Jesus, the painter felt unworthy and gave up, covering the icon. The next day, to his amazement, the faces were already perfectly painted, without his intervention. This miracle was interpreted as a sign that the icon was not made by human hands. The painter confirmed this testimony through a written document, dated June 29, 1863. 📅 The celebration of the icon and its veneration The icon is celebrated every year on July 12, a day that commemorates the moment of the miracle. On the occasion of its 150th anniversary in 2013, special services were organized at the Prodromu Hermitage, including a maritime procession and the bringing of a copy of the icon from Iași.
