As the story goes, when BSA closed the armoury road factory and went into administration (Summer 1973) . All the assets were liquidated, a number of motorcycle/spares dealers were invited to the factory where everything was brown tagged a literal pick what you want and pay at the gate affair. To that end, one of those buying old BSA factory stock was 'Vale Onslows' a renowned Birmingham motorcycle and spares shop (local to the factory). Some 5-6 years passed by and in Summer of 1977 my dad, whilst making a regular visit, spotted the handle bars of this BSA 250 amongst many other items of hidden treasure. He promptly purchased this "motorcycle" for £300, it was unregistered, unfinished and had literally been taken off the assembly line part finished. Onslow's furnished with a number of items to get it into a fairly complete state with the follow; Bonneville T140 headlight, John Tickle headlamp brackets, Triumph Adventurer TR5T seat, Triumph TR5T/Bonneville left hand switch gear and a pair of Doherty Universal Grips. This length of detail is crucial to the point of the upcoming request.... It was then built out (250 engine sold on) from the ground up with the CCM 550cc proforma engine but standard BSA B50 gearbox internals (4speed). He then rode it for around 18months at a guess/1200 miles. It then suffered a bigend failure and was subsequently rebuilt again following the engine repair. This rebuild was with the intention of sale due to lack of funds and my dad decided it would have more appeal in a 'Classic' BSA colour scheme of red and black. He dropped lucky on finding a pre-finished triumph Aluminium Tank in Red and polished complete with a Monza cap. Had the frame enamelled black (see photograph) and this is how it was sold circa 1979/1980... It was sold to Birmingham Motorcycles, Where did it end up??? Key point to note given its registration after my Dad built it means it would be the only or one of very view Late OIF BSA/Triumphs registered in 1978 it will either be a very late S or an early T registration. ** ***S or ** ***T (reg unknown)... More info... It was sold to Birmingham Motorcycles at their short lived second premises, a re-purposes petrol station on Walkers Heath Road, Birmingham. Now demolished and the site of domestic housing. __________________ Locations: Esquires cafe, Crayford __________________ Other channels: You can also find me on the @tuesdayatdobbs YouTube channel for weekly motorcycle chat. __________________ And you can shop Monika's prints here: www.thevillon.com ——————————— Tool Rolls - launching soon www.thelibertatia.com ——————————— Partners: QUAD LOCK: https://bit.ly/3SbG6Uc My Usual Bonneville Quad Lock setup: Quad Lock Mount with Black Lever, Vibration Dampener, Handlebar Mount Pro, iPhone Mag Case, USB Charger, USB to Lightening Cable XLMOTO: https://bit.ly/3q34JDM Your one stop motorcycle shop- from biking gear to tools and everything else.
