My husband's friend flew in from Ottawa, Ontario to see the Canadian Rockies for the first time. First time in Alberta. First time meeting me. It didn't feel like it. We skipped the tourist trails and found a cabin in Blaeberry Valley, Golden BC. No crowds. No itinerary. Just mountains, fire, good food and even better people. The Rockies showed up for us. We were visited by deer at the cabin — didn't film it. Some moments are just for you. I read a poem by the fire that night. Because of course I did. Fun fact - I wrote most of my upcoming third poetry book in these mountains last year. Coming back felt like returning to the place where something important was born.
