Raymond Stanley Noble (born December 17, 1903 – died April 3, 1978) Raymond Noble was a distinguished English bandleader, composer, arranger, radio comedian, and actor, whose career spanned both the UK and the US. Born in Brighton, England, Noble showed musical talent from an early age. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music, where he honed his skills in composition and conducting. In the late 1920s, Noble became the leader of the New Mayfair Dance Orchestra, a British band that was highly regarded for its sophisticated and polished style. This orchestra was unique because it primarily consisted of musicians from the London Symphony Orchestra, which contributed to its distinctive sound. Noble’s arrangements and compositions, such as "The Very Thought of You," "Goodnight Sweetheart," and "Love Is the Sweetest Thing," became significant hits during this period. In 1934, Noble moved to the United States, where he formed a new orchestra and continued to build his reputation. His American band included notable musicians like Al Bowlly, a popular singer who had previously worked with Noble in the UK.
