WATER FROM THE ROCK - Inspired by Exodus 17:1-7
After the miracle at the Red Sea and the bitter waters of Marah, Israel once again found themselves thirsty in the wilderness. Inspired by Exodus 17:1–7, "Water From the Rock" tells the story of God's provision when hope seemed lost. When there was no water and fear spread among the people, the Lord instructed Moses to strike the rock, and life-giving water flowed in the desert. This mature country-folk storytelling ballad speaks not only about the wilderness of Sinai, but also about the dry seasons we all experience in life. Even when resources seem exhausted and strength runs low, the Lord remains faithful. And fear began To make them weak [Pre-Chorus – gentle voice] Then Moses stood And sought the Lord And mercy spoke Once more [Chorus – warm harmonies, gentle lift, no dramatic build] Water from the rock Who would've known Out in the wilderness Far from home When hope grows weak And faith grows small The Lord provides Above it all Water from the rock [Instrument Break – soft fiddle and piano] [Verse 2 – intimate storytelling, conversational] The elders watched In silence there As Moses raised His staff in prayer And from the stone The waters came And weary hearts Were strong again [Pre-Chorus – almost spoken] No man could boast No strength explain The Lord alone Sent down the rain [Chorus – gentle and reassuring] Water from the rock Who would've known Out in the wilderness Far from home When hope grows weak And faith grows small The Lord provides Above it all Water from the rock [Bridge – reflective] I've lived enough To understand Provision seldom Comes as planned But time has taught My heart this truth The Lord is faithful Through and through [Final Chorus – emotional but restrained] Water from the rock I've seen it too Not always water But mercies new And after all These many years His hand has held me Through my fears Water from the rock Still flows [Outro – fading guitar and cello] The desert roads Will come and go But one thing I have learned The Lord provides More than enough For those who trust And those who wait
