Airfield Defence Guards at Kandahar Airfield

There are six Royal Australian Air Force Airfield Defence Guards (ADGs) embedded with the U.S. Air Force 451st Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron at Kandahar Airfield supporting the NATO-led Resolute Support mission in Afghanistan. The ADGs are undertaking traditional and new roles including flight line security, vehicle check points, vehicle searches, mounted and dismounted patrols inside the wire and also ‘Guardian Angel’ type roles for Coalition forces. There are approximately 400 Australian Defence Force personnel deployed across Afghanistan in a variety of roles as part of Operation HIGHROAD contributing to Resolute Support. Resolute Support is focused on training, advising and assisting the Afghan National Security Forces and Afghan security institutions at the operational, institutional and ministerial levels.
