Settler Colonialism and White Far-Right Nationalism - Pedro Mzileni
This breakaway room seminar took place on Friday, 3 October 2025 at Stellenbosch University in South Africa, at the Inaugural Global Anti-Racism Summit hosted by the Social Justice Agency in partnership with the University of Cape Town -------------------- Seminar Abstract Using the works of Walter Rodney, Frantz Fanon, Steve Biko, Ramon Grosfoguel, and Walter Mignolo: I historise settler colonialism as a global project of Empire built from a series land appropriations, whiteness, slavery, and capitalism since the 1490s. These crimes were framed from Western Christianization and justified with international law and global linear thinking. This political and economic project of systemic evil was also an epistemic project which I faced in the 21st century as the white-far right nationalism whilst teaching sociology at the University of the Free State in South Africa, 2022-2023. -------------------- Dr Pedro Mzileni is Senior Lecturer in the Department of Sociology at the University of Zululand in South Africa. He holds the Associate Editor portfolio for Inkanyiso: Journal of African Thought (2025-2028). His intellectual work and thinking is more focused on global higher education studies, decolonial thought, international history, and the sociologies of Africa.
