Limited-time support goes a long way 🙏 🎥 I Played Xenoverse 3 Early… And It Didn’t Feel Like Xenoverse I got the opportunity to play through the entire official Xenoverse 3 early-access demo at DreamCon. After years of waiting, I finally got to experience the graphics, combat, transformations, super attacks, open-world environments, and new mechanics for myself. And now that I have had time to process everything, I have some very mixed feelings. From a visual standpoint, Xenoverse 3 looks incredible. The character models looked clean, the environments felt massive, the combos looked smooth, and the transformation and super attack animations were some of the best parts of the demo. I genuinely do not understand the hate the game has received for its graphics. It might not have the exact same visual identity as Xenoverse 2, but graphically, this is almost exactly how I would want a modern Dragon Ball game to look. The open-world environments also showed a huge amount of potential. Flying freely through large areas made the battles feel much bigger than the traditional Xenoverse 2 arenas. Even though the demo did not confirm how deep exploration or character customization will be, it gave me the impression that both could be much larger in the full game. Unfortunately, the gameplay left me disappointed. My biggest issue was that the combat did not feel like an evolution of Xenoverse. It felt like a completely different Dragon Ball game. I am not upset because things changed. Xenoverse 3 should introduce new mechanics, movement options, attacks, and gameplay systems. But even when Sparking! ZERO made major changes from Budokai Tenkaichi 3, it still felt mechanically connected to those games. The Xenoverse 3 demo did not give me that same feeling. Locking onto enemies was difficult. I could not find any way to grab opponents. Transformations were timed. I had to land combos to unlock Super Saiyan, then land even more combos to reach Super Saiyan 3—and both transformations eventually ran out. The traditional stamina system was also missing. Instead of separate stamina and ki bars, everything appeared to use one combined energy system. The health bars and enemy UI also looked extremely plain compared to the rest of the game. Because of these issues, I currently give the Xenoverse 3 demo’s gameplay a 4/10. However, that rating applies only to this early demo. It does not mean I have lost faith in Xenoverse 3. This game is clearly still in development, and several of the systems shown could be placeholders. The UI could change, the controls could improve, grabs could be added, and the ki and stamina systems could work completely differently in other modes. It is also important to remember that this demo was designed around cooperative gameplay. The timed transformations, combined energy bar, cooldowns, and other unusual mechanics could be exclusive to co-op missions. We still have no idea how story missions, custom characters, one-on-one battles, or online modes will work. That is why I do not think it is fair to declare Xenoverse 3 dead or doomed based entirely on one early demo. We should criticize what did not work, but we should also keep an open mind until we see more gameplay and experience the finished product. Despite being disappointed by the demo, I still have insanely high hopes for Xenoverse 3. The graphics are incredible. The open world has massive potential. The customization could be insane. Now the developers just need to make sure that when Xenoverse 3 releases, it actually feels like Xenoverse. Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
