American Bulldogs are excellent companions for those with strong personalities. The breed is divided into the standard Scott and classic Johnson types. These dogs are incredibly loving and devoted to their owners. American Bulldogs do not get along well with other pets, as they do not tolerate competition. American Bulldogs can be wary of strangers on their property, which can make them good watchdogs. They require socialization training so they know how to interact with invited guests. The American Bulldog was approved for the FSS program in November 2019. The American Bulldog can jump vertically over 90 centimeters due to its dense, muscular build. American Bulldogs are known for their almost clownish behavior when happy and excited.
