In this video, I show you how to use a manual push reel lawn mower to mow your lawn, using organic lawncare. I am using a Scott’s Classic 20 inch lawnmower which is approximately 10 years old. You just push it around horizontally and then vertically, for two passes over the lawn. The second pass is easier, since the grass has been thinned out by the first pass. You get your exercise while mowing the lawn. I can also mix it up every other week and go diagonally across the lawn. It is low maintenance and it does not require any gasoline. It is also very quiet, and I am able to mow my lawn early in the morning at 6am while my family is still asleep. It mows the grass and leaves the grass clippings on the lawn, which is good because it returns nitrogen to your soil and you avoid using up energy in bagging the clippings and disposing them. The mower has a lever that allows you to change the height of the mower over the grass. I like keeping our grass long, which allows the grass to shade the soil, requiring less water and less fertilizer, if any, to keep the grass healthy. I practice organic lawncare and never use any pesticide or herbicide on the lawn, allowing the grass to be safe for my family and me. We have a modest home and I am generally able to mow our lawn in 30 minutes when the grass is dry, slightly longer when it is wet. When I am done, all I need to do is clean the mower with a hose, use some WD 40 on the contact points and dry it with a cloth.
