The quantum jubilee commemorates the birth of modern quantum physics, the foundations of which were laid in Göttingen over 100 years ago and which has fundamentally changed our understanding of nature. A particular milestone in this development is the discovery of the macroscopic tunneling effect, for whose experimental investigation and theoretical description the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded. In this video, scientists and students from the University of Göttingen explain how, thanks to this extraordinary phenomenon, laws of the quantum world can be applied to macroscopic systems. This opens up new possibilities in research and forms the basis for innovative applications such as superconducting circuits and quantum computers.
