Narela was developed as the third mega sub-city project of Delhi Development Authority in the urban extension project of Delhi, after Rohini and Dwarka. Located in North Delhi, Narela forms the border of Delhi with Haryana. It also shares the border towards the north with the town of Kundli in Sonipat. From Narela, Singhu Border is merely 4.6 km away. The locality is divided into various colonies, namely Rajeev Colony, Nai Basti, Punjabi Colony, Gautam Colony, Swatantra Nagar, and Shivaji Colony. Narela Industrial Area, developed in the early 1980s, is today one of the prominent industrial complexes of Delhi. Also known as DSIDC Industrial Area, it has many government offices, industries, and manufacturing units. Bhorgarh Industrial Area, which houses various macro and micro-industries, is also within the locality. Additionally, Kundli Industrial Area is about 6.8 km away from Narela. Moving on to the education infrastructure, schools like Khemo Devi Public School, Kendriya Vidyalaya Narela, Govt. Girls Sr. Sec School, New Happy Public School, and Rajkiya Pratibha Vikas Vidyalaya are present in the locality. CPJ College of Higher Studies & School of Law, Kasturi Ram College of Higher Education, and Narela ITI are also in the vicinity. Maharaja Agrasen Hospital, Sushila Hospital, Shradha Multi Speciality Hospital, and Sanjeevani The Life Saviour are major healthcare centres in the locality. Supermarkets like Reliance Fresh, Easy Day and various other local markets take care of the daily needs of the residents. Jhanda Chowk Market, Narela Sabzi Mandi, and Old Anaj Mandi are located within Narela. Power outages are unusual. While the older parts of the locality are congested, the DDA sub-city is well-planned, with wide streets, well-built sewer lines, proper waste management system, green open spaces, and parks.
