Located a few kilometers from the steel city of Rourkela, Ved Vyas Dham holds its own. Situated at the confluence of three rivers, Ved Vyas Dham is not only a pilgrimage site but also a tourist destination due to its natural beauty. A historic fair is held every year on Mahashivratri, which is over 100 years old. Maharishi Ved Vyas, the author of the Mahabharata, is hardly known. The Mahabharata itself mentions that Vyas composed it in a sacred cave located in the foothills. It is believed that Ved Vyas was not just a single sage, but a group of 18 sages who presented a unified ideology to India through the Mahabharata. Just before the Ved Vyas Temple, there is a Vedic Gurukul and Ashram. The entire temple complex is built within the rocky outcrops. Locals believe that Maharishi Ved Vyas composed the Mahabharata at this very spot. Beyond the temple, there is a path leading down to a pond filled with water year-round. Today, it is known as Saraswati Kund. Nestled in the lap of nature, this temple is a must-see. Another special feature of the temple is that its roof and floor were constructed without cutting down old trees.
