Shiva Sutra 35: The union of Shiva and Shakti - Recognition | Find Yourself by ABK

The union of Shiva and Shakti. Recognition. Through union, realization arises. But this union is not primarily physical. It is an inner recognition. The union of Shiva and Shakti. Of awareness and its own dynamic power. Shiva is stillness. Shakti is movement. In ordinary experience, these appear separate. We feel like a witness observing thoughts, sensations, and actions. But this separation is only apparent. The same Consciousness appears as both stillness and movement. Kashmir Shaivism describes this as Spanda, the subtle throb of existence. From this Spanda, even the slightest stirring gives rise to manifestation. Thoughts arise. Perceptions arise. The world appears. But the same Spanda contains the return. Every movement resolves back into stillness. The yogi begins to recognize this. He does not try to stop movement. He does not cling to stillness. He sees both as one continuous reality. When this recognition deepens, there is an inner fusion. Movement is no longer separate from awareness. Activity is no longer separate from silence. Abhinavagupta explains this recognition is not created by effort. It is revealed through grace, the natural unfolding of Consciousness recognizing itself. When this union becomes steady, accomplishment arises. Not a miracle, but a transformation of perception. The yogi can live in duality without being divided by it. This is Shiva Sutra 35.
