At the 6th general meeting of the Council of Heresy Countermeasure Chairmen of the Korean Church, a consultative body of heresy countermeasure chairmen from major denominations, the President and the Secretary General bowed their heads to the committee members. At this general meeting, he invited controversy by attempting to call a lawyer who had been listed on the defense team for the criminal trial of 'JMS leader' Jeong Myeong-seok as a seminar lecturer. Although the seminar was canceled after counterarguments were raised that he was trying to place a 'heresy defense lawyer' on the front lines where the church should be protecting heresies, the repercussions were significant. Although the meeting itself proceeded smoothly following the cancellation of the seminar just before the event and the executive committee's admission of error and apology, controversy surrounding the direction of the organization's operations ultimately led to the withdrawal of denominations. The Presbyterian Church of Korea (Tonghap) officially conveyed its intention to withdraw to the Council immediately after the event, and the Presbyterian Church of Korea (Hapdong), which did not attend the meeting, also resolved to withdraw from the Council at its denominational heresy committee meeting held in the afternoon. The Korean Methodist Church, which has not participated in the gatherings for some time, maintains that it has no plans to participate in the future. Underlying these denominations' withdrawals are deep concerns regarding the Council's operational methods and identity. They argue that the Council's identity has become ambiguous as it voiced opinions on political issues, such as opposing specific legislation, rather than fulfilling its original purpose of combating heresy. Furthermore, it has been pointed out as a source of regret that major issues are handled in a notification-style manner, driven by a few individuals, without sufficient review or deliberation by the theology departments of each denomination. Major denominations, including the Presbyterian Church of Korea (Tonghap) and the Presbyterian Church of Korea (Hapdong), which have left the Council, have expressed their intention to continue their joint activities through meetings of the Mission Field Heresy Countermeasures Executive Committee organized within the Korea World Mission Council.
