Full of the highs and lows that all creativity comes with. As many of my regular listeners will know, I posted the other day saying that I was abandoning this mashup. The HTDA track modulates quite heavily in the final part of the track and it was already pitched up...so thought it was gonna end in tears. BUT...a sleepless night later and I knew I could not let this thing go. I knew there was something there - but it just took a lot more work than initially expected. With this track in particular I have added some of my own synths, drums, sound design and pianos. The parts of the two tracks needed some bringing together. I do not do this lightly - I always try and make the mashups with what is given to me but this song reeeelly needed some help to make things sound cohesive. In the end, I am really pleased with the result. It sounds very imperfect and a bit messed up, like an old recording from the fragile era that's been lost on a cassette tape and been lovingly brought back to life. I feel a bit guilty putting these two tracks together. In a way, it feels like I am smashing two very different parts of Trent's life together. But the songs feel like two different sides of the same breakdown. “The Wretched” is the violent breaking point : the self-destruction, the fury, the moment everything you built finally gives way. “The Spaces In Between” is the freeze-frame after the impact : the numb, quiet air where two people share the same room but not the same connection. All the unspoken hurt. All the emotional distance. All the things left behind. I hope you can see the validity of bringing these two worlds together, and more importantly, I really hope you enjoy the sonic result.
