From my recordings around the age of 30 (1986-1990) ㊵ J.W.Duarte

John W. Duarte:English Suite ~Ⅰ.Prelude,Ⅱ.Folk Song, Ⅲ.Round Dance At the time, the name "Duarte" was pronounced [dyuʌrute] in Japan. The first recording of this piece I heard was by Behrend, not Segovia. While Behrend had the reputation of being an intellectual performer, he disliked the noise caused by the left hand; he would lift his fingers vertically off the strings before shifting positions, which sometimes caused the sound to break even during legato passages. The Segovia recording I heard later was overwhelmingly magnificent; I feel that this piece is a perfect match for Segovia’s style.
